First published in 1939, The Irish Dramatic Movement is a critical study of the dramatic work of W. B. Yeats, Lady Gregory, Synge, their contemporaries and some of their successors. Professor Ellis-Fermor relates each to the movement as a whole, discussing the nature of poetic drama in the hands of Yeats and Synge, while attempting to describe the remarkable contribution made by Irish drama to the literature of the early twentieth century.
